Re: Anybody Catching
Strange you should say that about trial and error, I have started using crayfish tails from aldi, And i have had a couple of Pike on them, So when ever i walk the dog along this water, I take a couple of tubs of free offering, And just throw a few in as i am passing 3 or 4 spots, This will help them get the tast for them propper, Well i hope so anyway haha Then when the season starts, I will Know if it works

good idea, perch love crayfish dont they, also are the tails in brine? wouldnt that affect the attractiveness of them as a bait?
Re: Anybody Catching
The ones i keep getting are in brine according to the Mrs "Belinda", But she said they do them in brine and what we think is just ordinary water, They are good for bait but i wouldn't eat them
Re: Anybody Catching
i would love them critters

Re: Anybody Catching
They are becoming a very good bait in waters where they have started to breed and live, Just that not many Pikers have spotted how good Crayfish can be
Re: Anybody Catching

Re: Anybody Catching
This is a top bait for pike, You must take out the "Pastic" Spine Though, Just like you do when Sea fishing, I have used the Calimari Squid from frozen, Fill the Purse with Sardines from a tin, The oil and fish realy help.stubbo wrote:have you ever used squid as bait paddy
Re: Anybody Catching
I thought squid was complete garbage for pike and I wouldn't give it the time of day anymore. Lots of cat anglers use squid because it doesn't attract pike that well.
I'm not suggesting it doesn't work at all. I just don't think the effort justifies the means.
If you're putting sardine in them, it's probably the sardine that's catching them more often than not.

Re: Anybody Catching
Dont know about expencive Andy, They only cost about £1;50 For 10 from the chinese market in Liverpool, I have had some good times Pikeing with them, But you might be right about the sardines and oil being more atractive to the Pike than the squid itself
Re: Anybody Catching
Here that's cheap! I'll have to remember that when I go sea-fishing. Squid and rag cocktails are my favourite cod baits.

Re: Anybody Catching
I like Squid and Black Lug cocktails, Mind you my mate is a Bait digger, And lets me have them cheeper than any tackle shop, Or i can go out to the beach with him and keep half of what i dig,Andy Macfarlane wrote:Here that's cheap! Re: Anybody Catching
I was once running low on bait so had a look in the fridge so see what I could find.
Ended up taking a couple of strips of bacon.
What was even funnier was I had a run and hooked a Pike!
Just a shame I lost it at the net. ;(
PS: it was smoked back bacon. Lol

Re: Anybody Catching
2 pike caught by gavin1928 on slices of luncheon meat that he cut into fish shapes
This was done because our fishing buddy Rob was having trouble in his swim.

Re: Anybody Catching
To be honest i think you have just ruind the pictures, And it would seem to me that you would have to be a regular at the water to know where it is, Just seems to me this has just killed the whole report, And taken the shine of his catch,Lefty wrote:adie1200 wrote:Well done

Re: Anybody Catching
I agree Paddy but rules are rules and I also agree with Nick.
It is a busy fishery and there were quite a few people there who were after carp and there always has been everytime I've visited. So it came as no surprise they didn't show for me to test my new rod (Fox Warrior Z). When we arrived at 6.30am there were already 3 guys with multiple rod setups after the resident carp and more carp anglers turned up afterwards.
In winter, I've seen it the same for pike angling too.
