Re: Anybody Catching
Went coarse fishing with a mate on Wednesday. Had around 50 fish ranging from fingerlings to about half a pound.
First roach I put back got snaffled by a pike just as I released it in the water and I nearly had my fingers bitten.
Five more fish returned got the same from Mr/Mrs pike and then I started getting them attacked as I was reeling them in. All this was going on right under my feet, about a foot out. I couldn't see where the pike was coming from but I got soaked a couple of times as the pike dived down again making a splash with it's tail.
At 2pm(ish) I was reeling a small perch in when the pike came back and this time managed to get hooked and then, after a spirited fight (tail walking included!) with me slackening off the clutch in order to prevent being snapped off, it was on the bank. Yippee
I guesstimate it being around 10lb in weight. Not bad to say my hooklink was 4lb and I was using a size 18 hook. Hooked it right in the scissors.
It got returned back to the water a couple of pegs down and I carried on fishing until 7pm but the swim was ruined due to the disturbance, but what the heck I didn't care.
My first pike in just over a year and I wasn't even fishing for them.

Re: Anybody Catching
I had my first proper go at nightfishing last night, got set up for 7.30pm then waited, waited n waited some more.
At 4.00am i nearly had a heart attack when my bite alarm started screeming off, i managed to land the fish it weighed 10 lb. Then after waiting another 6 hours i manged to catch a secound fish that weighed 9lb. Then soon as the sun got high enough the sport went dead. I didn't care because i needed sleep.....

Re: Anybody Catching
I been out and walked several miles of canal with only 1 small jack to show for it...went with 3 others and we all caught at least - biggest one was a low double estimate. Just nice to get out, travel light and cover loads of =water i've never fished before so that was good.
Also had the biggest perch i have ever seen turn away from my lure in the margins at the end of a retrieve - no lying it was that big i was shaking after i saw it...wouldn't like to put a weight on it as they always look different in the water than out of it, but it was three times the length of my lure I was using and that's 9cm and so FAT.
Definately be back hunting for that again lol

baits
i think bait size depends on differing waters my biggest pike fell to a 3/4 inch roach. But theres a local lake where only big baits seem to produce runs its just a trial and 100000000 error thing lolAndy Macfarlane wrote:kell wrote:

yup i agree totally.... i know several waters round here where you catch on one particular size/shape bait and nothing else really gets sniffed at.
