I used to fish bassenthwaite about the same time eric that's where I had my first double to funnily enough used to fish the point where the trees were..... when it was good
Yes, minewater overflow from the Force Crag mine has destroyed Bassenthwaite, you'd be lucky to ctch a double there now. The mine is depositing three tonnes of zinc into the lake every year, there'll be nothing left soon
Thats a great shame, Eric. As a boy in the 1970's, I used to fish on Bassenthwaite from my step-fathers dinghy! It was made from high density polystyrene, would you believe.. We towed it all the way up there and back from Nottingham. I was catching Perch mainly on float fished lobworms

Re: Anybody Catching
To follow on the Seasons results theme. I Also did fairly well on numbers, but well down on doubles. 32 trips, 6 blanks, 89 jacks, 28 doubles and 5 twentys to 24lb 5oz. Thats Oct 1st to now. A few weeks on the lures on the huge cold loughs and then its all about Tench lol. Well done everyone.
Re: Anybody Catching

Re: Anybody Catching
Jesus! I knew I'd done badly but when some of you post your results it shows just how badly, a total of 6 runs, one missed, two dropped and three fish landed, biggest 10lb 1oz, this is a poor return for 16 trips, I really must improve this October, it's more like camping than fishing!!!

Re: Anybody Catching
As long as your enjoying it leondodd then thats enough. I am dissapointed in my results too as I usually have double that amount of fish. But not as many 20s strangely enough. So it was a mixed season for me. Next year and the next session will be better lol. We need to dream dont we.
Re: Anybody Catching
I am enjoying it lowdouble, I just don't know where I am going wrong, I always do ok when after trench ,carp & barbell in the summer but as soon as I start poking in the winter I just can't get on them, I had 2 of my fish and the dropped run in one session so that makes quite a few blanks without so much as a take, and I can't work out why???!

Re: Anybody Catching
It can only be the waters that you are on are poor. You sound like you have good angling skills but the truth is, If they arent there you can not catch them We all have spells/runs of bad luck but that doesnt usually last the whole season. New venue new change of luck maybe. Now go get those Tincas

Re: Anybody Catching
With the forecast of 50mph winds tomorrow I call my last trip off.
That's the end of my season I have fished 37 days on 8 different venues and caught 105 pike 20 doubles but only 1 over 20lb
And I have blanked 10 times. So not a bad season, I would of liked to have more twenty but don't we all.
My fishing mat had 6 fish over 20lb biggest 26 but he didn't catch as many. After a weeks pike fishing in Ireland at the end
of May its back to Barbel fishing.

Re: Anybody Catching
Ended a run of 6 blanks with a fish of around 8lb. That's the bait rods packed away till October (unless I'm going to 1 of the glacials) to concentrate on the lures once the hanky pankys over and done with.

Anyone catching
Stubbo, in 2010 when we had those minus 15 temperatures all that snow and that, I was unable to get to the majority of venues from mid November right through into Feb. Everywhere was either solid in ice or flooded or just too hard to get to because of the snow on the ground ! . So at that point I made the decision to fish all year round for the pike... Mainly because most of us don't get as much time on the bank as we would like. So I now make the most of every opportunity of trying to get piking .
I've started fishing a new lake which is supposed to be quite hard but definitely holds some big fish, I've had 3 trips and blanked first 2 times but yesterday I had the one run and had a lovely solid 14.9 oz fish. I'm just going to go 1 more time in May , then try and get them on the lures when the rivers open again in June.
Cheers Craig.

Re: Anybody Catching
Had a couple of days on the lures last week. the waters over here are still under 10deg C so about the same as Nov Dec. I had I kid you not, 35 fish in one session and all were under 3lb I will be ready for deadbaits again soon lol.
Re: Anybody Catching
I,ve been out on a local gravel pit in the evenings a few times over the last couple of weeks but only getting jacks up to 3 pound on topwaters

River season underway boys.... We did the Trent and surrounding drains etc today, 4 of us on lures and spinners. 10 pike were caught and around the same number in perch. Biggest pike was a low double , biggest perch touching 2 pounds. Great fun and lovely to be out. Cheers Craig.
