Just like to say a big thanks to the Fenland Machine, AKA Kev for a brilliant day on Sunday. The only bad point was leaving as I really didn't want to go. Thanks again for sharing your Fenland wisdom and we''ll see you in a fortnight. Cheers Rich (not Mitch, don't know who he is)
no problem rich was my pleasure to share it with yourselves i,m glad you enjoy the experience .
it was a shame you had to leave but it did slow up and you,ll soon be back to hopefully do battle with the pike and maybe even a zed
next time will make sure mitch itsn,t there

Re: Anybody Catching
Yes I'm aware of the rules concerning livebait, the lake I fish is one of a number that are connected by brooks, the top water is teaming with them and is a popular venue for fly fisherman, when the weather turns to heavy rain the brooks swell and the fish consequently find thier way into the water, I'm close friends with the person who owns the water and he has agreed to provide me with the trout that he catches himself on the water..tootall wrote:are they from the same water you fish for pike?
If not it's illegal to use them mate.

Re: Anybody Catching
sounds like a perfect water mate
i take it that it is a still water then?
If i were you i would paternoster a livebait aling any marginal shelf area. There are good links on the PAC website for rigs like this.

Re: Anybody Catching
Yes it is a still water, where the brook enters, on either side the water comes back behind the brook itself to form two bays, A letter W would be the best way to describe the shape of this end of the water, i was thinking of fishing directly infront of the brook, the reason being, the fish have got to go across the the front of the brook to get to either bay, am I right in thinking in this way, or will the pike just be held up in the deeper parts of each bay????tootall wrote:sounds like a perfect water mate

Re: Anybody Catching
If the water flowing in is colder than the rest of the lake then you might be as well trying other areas in winter. If the lake is quiet then try the margins and keep moving until you find some fish. With a load of live baits you could use just one rod and have 15 minutes in each likely looking spot. A free roving float rig will do it.
Good Luck

Re: Anybody Catching
i use a roving rig..
if a small live then i use a single treble hooked in the dorsal.
if a big live then either hooked lip and dorsal or peck and dorsal.
normally fish about 3/4ft, but all depends on the depth im fishing...
i have a mate that fish the paternoster rig for lives, never used it, but could be worth a shot

Re: Anybody Catching
Had a day session at the lake today, 4 runs for 3 fish on the bank, had a jack at 6.05 & the others were doubles at 10.12 & 11.08 so the weights are slowly getting better, the interesting thing was the jack had a big bite mark across it's back.
A guy who has fished the lake for years told me where the big girls were caught from years ago so I will move area for the last 2 weeks of the season, he said a really big girl came from a 1lb deadbait!!!
Has anyone ever tried "mega" deadbaits or is this another fable of the lake.
