Anybody Catching Empty The new water keeps getting better...

Post  Richard Neath Mon Aug 15, 2011 5:40 pm

Left home at 5.30 a.m. and was fishing by 8.45 (it's a fair trek for a one day session I can tell you!)

What a place, only one fish but, at 19lb 8oz, I wasn't complaining. One of the best fights I've ever had even though I didn't enjoy it really - too terrified it was going to come off! The reason I was worried about it shaking the hooks was because I'd had, at that point, 4 missed runs. Strange thing on this particular loch that they don't seem to get the baits into their mouths very well. I'm loath to leave it any longer before striking as a deep hooked pike is a terrible thing, but missing or dropping fish after a few seconds is really annoying.

One consolation is that the marks on the dropped dead baits were pretty small (maybe they were big trout!!!!)

The 19 actually jumped clear of the water, something I've never had happen before.

Can't wait till I can get there again.

Why stay in one spot when you know the biguns are somewhere else, Go look for them as i dont think they are going to come to the spot you have been fishing, Jacks tell you one thing, If they feel safe its because the biguns are not around, Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Anybody Catching Empty Another crack at the new water.

Post  Richard Neath Tue Sep 20, 2011 10:12 am

A two night session - Friday to Sunday lunchtime produced 5 fish. The level of the loch had risen 6 feet since my last visit (2 weeks ago with and old mate of mine who was up for a week's visit which produced one 2 1/2 pounder and 2 missed runs) and, with the rain still falling, it was set to keep on rising.
On the Saturday, I had an 8lb 12oz fish and another at 12lb 12oz to float fished lamprey then, on the Sunday morning had a take while I was standing next to the one rod I'd cast out, cleaning my teeth in the loch. It had only been out there for about 3 minutes! After another unbelievable fight (another jumper and most of the scrap on the surface) I netted a superb fish of 18lb 10oz. (Popped up half herring.)
Another 2 fish before I packed up of 5lb and about 2lb, both on float fished smelt, drifted on the wind, finished off another memorable trip.
Watched a golden eagle for 10 minutes as it soared above the forest too. Magic.

WJust got back from a morning's piking. Lost one fish after trying a few different swims, and after a few more moves, i had a dip on my float, before it dissapeared. Lifting my rod up, i noticed the line had got under the spool (which i had obviously overfilled last night when replacing the line). I quickly unwound the spool, untangled and got the spool back on, all the time noticing that a pike was slowly wandering upstream with my bait. Eventually, i was able to hit into it, knwing it may be deep hooked. After a few mins, i landed this fighting fit 8.5lber, fortunately the hook hold was good. No more action after that, but good fun.

Late Report as i have been busy doing nothing else and it took all my time up.
But me and Eddie went to one of the club { SDAA }, we were doing all the normal things
like chucking lures and then dead baiting,
I had two jacks to 5LB and then Eddie had this nice pike that weighed in at 14Lb 10oz
