Re: Anybody catching?
I went fishing all day on Tuesday through the night onto Wednesday afternoon. I had 8 jacks to about 9lbs to show for the effort. Ah well, obviously picked the right swim on the wrong day or is that the wrong swim on the right day? Um....It didn't work. Yes, that'll do.

Re: Anybody catching?
Well, I had a crap day today. TOTALLY BLANKED
No bites, nibbles, runs, dropped fish etc....................
That's my first totally dry day for ages. Even when I blanked whilst trying out my single hook rig, I still had some bites and a very short dropped run.
Went to the Torne off the A614, a mile past Tyram on the right where the dam is. I've always had something there even if I've ended up not landing. I don't know why, river wasn't fast flowing, was gin clear, maybe a little low on levels but I've seen it lower. I tried all the swims I've been to before and tried all the things I could think of. Trotting, hard on the bottom, in the margins, out in the middle, spinning, popped up AND GOT NOWHERE.
Did anybody else experience a $H1T day?

even worse lefty. hooked 3 fish had them all on for about 10 seconds then lost them. god only knows why. can't remember ever losing 3 fish on the trot like that before. apart from that had a great day with some good lads. i guess its not always about what you catch, as long as you enjoy it even when you BLANK, (AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH) LOL. all the best guys . LOL....she holds that pike with more confidence than a lot of men I've seen. Was that picture for show or does she actually like a bit of pike fishing?

Re: Anybody catching?
Well done on catching your 1st pike and welcome to the forum....
Now this isn't criticism so please just take this as friendly advice.
When you hold a pike for a picture, hold the head of the fish using a chin-grip or at least have a firm hold on the jaw of the fish. Not too tight mind, just don't allow the fish to come free.
With your other hand, support the weight of the fish, making sure you aren't squashing any internal organs in the process.
Don't hold the fish too far from your body. Apart from looking unnatural, because big fingers are a giveaway, you also want to to be able to bring the fish to your chest for extra safety, should the fish start to flip or move.
It's a good idea to hold the fish while in a kneeling position. Dropping a fish from a height could cause serious internal damage which could lead to a slow lingering death some time later. It's also wise to make sure that you aren't holding the fish over gravel or sharp rocks or anything that could add to the problem, should the worst happen.
It's wise to setup a frame for taking pictures. that way you only have to set the timer and place yourself in the shot.
Gardener tackle do a screw in camera attachment for bank-sticks. I bought one and now I don't have an excuse for not taking pics, even when I'm lure fishing. It's hardly any more weight carrying a bank-stick. At £2.99, it's not cheap for what it is but it beats sticking your camera up trees.
It's good for taking all your pictures when you're out because you get a completely still photo. Even when I'm behind the camera, I set the timer and let it do all the work. No matter how still you imagine you are, the bank-stick makes all the difference. Set the camera up at every swim. It takes about a 30 seconds to set up. Just point at another bank-stick or a bush or something, to get the frame size and then simply set the timer and place yourself within that frame. Easy.

Re: Anybody catching?
Nice one Steve, congrats on your first pike...you'll be hooked now!
Give the chin grip a try on your next one! you'll be really pleased at how comfortable you look holding Mr Pikey in the resulting photo!!

1st Pike.
Appreciate your comments and advice guys.
Was a little apprehensive holding a Pike for the first time, as probably shows in my photo, however, your tips are truelly noted. Looking back through the forum, the other photos of forum members give inspiration.
Thanks.

Re: Anybody catching?
Was oot today on a local loch from 10:00am til 5:00pm.
Hit 5 pike. 2 small jacks......1 6lber, 1 10 lber and 1 12lber
Had the deadbait on the go today (for a change) and managed 1 of the jacks and the 10lber on it.
Took my spinning rod and got the jack on a shad, the 6lber and the 12lber on a flying C
Seriously windy here at the moment.......the old braid is now aboot 100yds shorter ......serious birds nests

Yeah, I'm worried about that too.
If I ever get round to spooling up that is. Had it a while now and really ought to get it on the reel

Broke my Fookin' heart taking the knife to the line.........I could see £££££££££'s disappearing in front of my eyes (please insert tight Scotsman joke here )
Honestly though mate.........watch that line in the wind......it just floats aboot like nothing I've ever seen
Re: Anybody catching?
I'll do a write up on spooling braid tomorrow lads. I'm going fishing in a few hours so I don't have time right now but if I forget, remind me alright.

Re: Anybody catching?
went to the a1 pits today got there at half 7 gorgeous morning nice and still and set up 2 rods, within about 5 mins two blokes were on the next peg and had a bite within 2 mins but lost it, after hours of waiting trying new things and various different swims, no body on the pits had caught anything, me and a friend of mine who i regularly fish with thought we were doing somthing wrong, as we are new to pike fishing, but the blokes nxt to us, who said they had vast exprience in pike fishing said we were doing everything right, is it possible that pike wont bite if the wind pickes up? as it did quite badly and bad weather rolled in
over all a non preductive day, but a gud day out non the less we will be trying it again in the not to distant future
