Cheers mate, it was the first time I have fished the Thames this year.welsh piker wrote:Don't worry Fella, it happens to us all:D , But when you do catch, you soon forget those bad days:Dsymonh2000 wrote:Fished part of the Thames today, never even saw a fish let alone caught one despite trying deads as well as lures.
Will probably visit one of the many gravel pits in the area next as I seem to have more sucess on those in the winter.

Re: Anybody Catching
My eldest son likes his piking. He used to be big on carp and told him why don't you try for the pike, he was adamant he wouldn't but I took him out one day and the carping went out the window, he loves it. Took my other son and managed to get him his first pike of 12lb then a 15.9 but then he got a taste for the girls, fags and cheap plonk and he's a bit of a boy racer so never been fishing for quite a while. But like you say Jake, the look on their face when they bank a nice fish is one for the photo album.......

Canals have a habit of throwing some big pike up from even the most barren looking parts
Re: Anybody Catching

Re: Anybody Catching
Don't do lure fishing myself but know what your saying mate. Rivers can be and usually are hard work the colder it gets. Sounds like you had a bloody frustrating session there stubbo.....
Your set up is identical to mine, only I use bank sticks rather than pod.....

bank sticks
some times when the ground freezes hard its just quicker to use a pod less bankside disturbance as well

Re: Anybody Catching
As you know almost all my piking is done on rivers and a pod would be no use to me mate, but still waters are a different kettle of fish (excuse the pun)....
