duane wrote:Oh well gents it is official, I am no longer a Pike virgin............ I went out armed with a few lures this afternoon and am proud to announce that I was rewarded with two young Pike for my efforts, meaning that I can now add this fine species of preditor to my catch log as well!!!
- Many thanks to Noodle for all his assistance, guidance and patience.
PS. I have scrutinized the photo's prior to posting them and feel that there are no identifying landmarks which would give the venue location away - please advise if you guys think differently.

And who suggested that lures are no good in the cold weather. I went somewhere today and there was a 200 yard stretch totally iced over. Didn't catch tho.
Well done to Piker Duane

Re: Anybody catching?
Thats Noodle....blankety blank, Andy Webster......blankety blank, Bazz......blankety blank & Duane......2 Pike!
Ice Andy, must have been cold your way..
I nearly lost my Zoota... a fave of mine, only had a few hours to spare so I went to my local big water, a disused Cement pit & got hooked up on the bottom! A treble straightened, fortunately. I am still a dedicated bait angler, I'm afraid...

Noodle - Don't worry mate, I will repay the favour when we try and tame those pike on fly tackle as we discussed this afternoon.......
Baz - I can't wait for you to show me the ropes with bait later in the month.........

Congratulations on your first pike Duane
If I get one only half the size of your smallest tomorrow, I'll be happy.

Duane........I started my predatory fishing in summer three years ago....I was on waggler(float) on a warm day in august(when i was still at school on a 6week holiday) and i was have a bad start.......one of the regulars at the venue asked me if i had any lures....i replied saying i have about 6 cheap spinners which were in my tackle box....he told me to get them and to follow him....i followed him to a rowing boat and the lake which was not to be fished..............we went out into it and we started lure fishing (on float rods and line) and this was when i caught my biggest perch............................Since then i was addicted to predators..........As for bazz............he is a good teacher in bait fishing he taught me how to ledger deadbait and how to make snap traces........

Blood & feathers everywhere....humn sounds like Noodle was refereeing a fight between two Coots or something, or he was trying to catch a Moorhen live-bait..

Re: Anybody catching?
Went out yesterday with fellow forum member gavin1928.
I got 2 'knocks' which never went any further and gavin got 3 'knocks' one of which resulted in a take. Nice bend in his rod for all of 1 second then nothing.
Better than being sat in the house bored

Re: Anybody catching?
all these blanks are probably down to the sudden drop in temperature.... dont worry they'll start feeding by next weekend unless things get even colder

You've not seen the weather forecast for later this week/next week?
If they are to be believed, we have Easterly winds and sub zero temperatures. Could last a while too.
